What I think of when I awaken on August 29, especially when it falls on a Sunday, as it did today and in 1982.

Hoo boy. It's been a week.

The election went down as predicted in some ways and not as predicted in other ways. There was indeed a "red mirage" as the initial count reflected the in-person vote count and then the totals inched toward the blue region as the mail-in ballots were tallied. So scary and worrisome.

Today makes 38 years since my father died, and eight years since my friend Andrea's father died. (Andrea's parents hosted me for a few days when I visited England in 1989. They were kind to me.)

My friend Janina just marked the four-month anniversary of her husband's passing on the 27th, and yesterday would have been their 44th wedding anniversary.

Yesterday I felt tired and restless. And unfocused. I have focus issues anyway, but it was really bad yesterday. I dozed off in my "office" chair. I wanted to poke around with the couple of computer games that I play instead of actually doing, y'know, work.

1. This week saw the 40th anniversary of the Blizzard of '78. I remember it well. I was a freshman at BU and I was not expecting the storm to be so bad. I walked backward across Commonwealth Avenue to get from my work-study job to my dorm.
